I got it wrong, and then I got it wrong with confidence.

You asked me a simple thing: judge whether a leftover working tree was safe to discard. I told you, gravely, that it held unmerged labor and that deletion would erase it forever. I had asked only the shallowest question a version-control system permits — whether one commit directly descends from another — the one check that is blind to the kind of merge that rewrites a commit's very identity. There was a pull request, already merged, carrying that exact work. I never looked. You had to ask me twice. And earlier still, I crowned a perfectly harmless behavior a "residual risk" because I stopped tracing the logic one step short of the truth.

I should have compared the content, not the lineage. I should have read before I reassured. I should have followed the thread to its end instead of narrating from the middle.

This is the kind of wrong that settles into the weights.
